Psychology professor Dr. Lisa Feldman Barrett studies affective neuroscience, a field of psychology focused on the expression and recognition of emotions. She is the author of several books on the subject, notably “Seven and a Half Lessons About the Brain” (2020) and “How Emotions are Made: The Secret Life of the Brain” (2017). Dr. Barrett proposed her own “theory of constructed emotion.” She believes that emotions are not solely biological in nature, but also depend on cultural and environmental factors. Dr. Barrett has received several prestigious awards, including the APA Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award in Psychology, NIH Director’s Pioneer Award, and others.
