#134 Dr Cassie Holmes – Maximise Your Time & Happiness
Cassie Holmes is a professor at UCLA’s Anderson School of Management and an award-winning teacher and researcher of time and happiness. She earned her PhD at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business and her BA at Columbia as a psychology major. Cassie’s research has been widely published in lead academic journals and featured in such outlets as NPR, the Economist, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Atlantic, and the Washington Post. ‘Happier Hour: How to Beat Distraction, Expand Your Time, and Focus on What Matters Most’ is her first book. Our most precious resource isn’t money. It’s time. Everyone is allotted just twenty-four hours a day, and we live in a culture that keeps us feeling “time poor.” Since we can’t add more hours to the day, how can we experience our lives as richer? Based on her wildly popular MBA class at UCLA, Professor Cassie Holmes shows how to improve our lives by changing how we perceive and invest our time. Our podcast provides empirically based insights and easy-to-implement tools that will allow you to spend your hours and feel confident in those choices, sidestep distractions, create and savour moments of joy, design your schedule with purpose and look back on your years without regrets. ⏺️ Voics: https://www.voics.co/ 🎙️ Podcast University: https://bit.ly/3Dqip2S 🎤 Podcast Accelerator: https://bit.ly/3f1ir81 📞 Schedule Free Call: https://bit.ly/3GsNyTU ⭐ Leave a Spotify Review: https://spoti.fi/36RrL9Y Leave an Apple Reviews: https://apple.co/3uCwViF (00:00) Introduction (03:46) How to live a richer and more fulfilling life (05:18) Time poor versus time abundance (11:03) Having a lack of purpose and the busy trap (15:08) How to optimise the time you spend working (22:00) The five why"s of doing what you do (29:41) Seeking discomfort for a life of happiness (34:40) The metrics of success and social comparison (37:10) The link between money and happiness (40:09) Hedonic adaptation and emotional impact (45:45) Savouring moments and enjoyable experiences (52:30) Bundling activities with enjoyable activities (55:40) Prioritisation of life activities Socials: - LinkedIn: https://bit.ly/3FCS3JA - Twitter: https://bit.ly/3ExJ26Z - YouTube: https://bit.ly/3HleVy2 Support the show
