We look at their sales history, exhibiting experience and more.  Often artists come looking for gallery representation before they are ready. I think it is great to know what to expect and the road to representation.  However, if the goal is to offload the 'business' side of being an artist, there's often other elements that the artist needs to work on before approaching any dealers, which includes professional and personal growth.
