Does having enough money in your bank quench your thirst for fulfillment? In this episode, Paul Ollinger joins us for some money talk – making money, saving money, our relationship with money, and finding the thing that really fulfills us. Paul also dives into three questions to ask yourself to help you figure out how to spend your time. Paul Ollinger is a writer, comedian, and podcaster. After “retiring” at 42 and finding himself bored out of his mind, Paul started the Crazy Money podcast to explore the connection between money, happiness, work, and meaning. In 1:1 conversations with some of the world’s most interesting people, Paul helps uncover the true sources of happiness in life and what money, success, and fame can (and can’t) do for us. Previous interviewees include prominent authors, academics, celebrities, and winners of the Nobel Prize, Heisman Trophy, and Olympic gold medals.  Paul is also a nationally-touring comedian who has opened for Daniel Tosh, Dave Attell, and Chelsea Handler. He has also opened four major music acts, including Styx and Collective Soul. In 2019, Paul headlined the legendary Carolines on Broadway in New York City as part of their Breakout Artist Series. A Finalist at the Boston and San Diego Comedy Festivals, Paul plays comedy clubs, country clubs, and corporate events all over North America. He lives in Atlanta with his wife and two tween children.  This episode is perfect for you if you're having a hard time figuring out what you want to be now that you're a mom. Maybe you're no longer working for someone, you're no longer part of a team corporate, or you no longer have a perfectly laid-out career. Hopefully, you will have a better understanding of the role of money in your life and have clarity about the things that matter the most to you. In this episode, you will hear: Does money fulfill us? What role does our identity play? The importance of knowing how you fill your day if you had all the money you needed What if you need other days to challenge yourself other than being a parent? Where does belongingness come into all of this if you are no longer working for someone or as part of a team? Money is quantifiable and tends to be overemphasized because it can be counted but there are other important factors related to feeling fulfilled Living within our means vs. prioritizing what brings us joy especially if a recession is looming What are money scripts? Why he thinks comedy is a reflection of a risk-averse mindset Here’s what you get when you chase your dream – and how trying is your trophy, not guaranteed success When did Paul realize that he had to express himself authentically vs. stay on the path of money? Now what? Finding meaning after you’ve cashed out. 3 questions to uncover your passion How to start over again in your 40s, 50s, and beyond How frugality serves as your safety net SHARE this episode with a mom who enjoys reading nonfiction and/or is writing her own.  Similar Resources: How to Overcome Money Anxiety and Become a Money Magnet by Ken Honda, Author of Happy Money, Episode 155 https://www.melissallarena.com/how-to-overcome-money-anxiety-and-become-a-money-magnet-by-ken-honda-author-of-happy-money-episode-155/  Find Your Purpose Besides Being A Mom (This Is An Open Call For 50 Moms To Become Beta Readers Too), Episode 148 https://www.melissallarena.com/find-your-purpose-besides-being-a-mom-this-is-an-open-call-for-50-moms-to-become-beta-readers-too-episode-148/  Supporting Resources: Website: https://www.paulollinger.com/    Instagram: http://instagram.com/paul_Ollinger  Twitter: http://twitter.com/Paul_Ollinger  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/PaulOllinger  Subscribe and Review Have you subscribed to my podcast for moms who read and want to write a nonfiction book? Get your free chapter today! Don’t you want to feel alive again? You know who raises happy kids? Happy moms. So here is what other moms have to say… This chapter is about getting in touch with your creative, playful, imaginative side. The part of yourself that perhaps felt freer before you became a parent, before you chose your identity and had a lot of responsibilities weighing you down. In helping you get in touch with your more playful, creative self, it not only helps you on a path toward greater happiness and fulfillment, but it also helps you to feel more fulfilled as a parent. - Mom/PR The words: imagination, play and fun are not the usual things we as mothers think of when wondering how to get a grip back on our career and I believe it provides a really fresh take and lots of food for thought for mothers reading it. I think that the tone is so energetic and fresh that it is why I would pick it up. – Latina Mom/Positive Psychology Coach Melissa is a mom of three with big dreams who tells it like it is. She draws on her own experiences and the experiences of professionals she’s interviewed for her podcast to reflect on the plight of the mother. How do women conform to or challenge the traditional “mom script”? If you’re a mom, what can you do to break the “cultural glass ceiling” to be yourself and a great parent, all without having to force yourself into a mom mold that doesn’t fit you? Melissa is like a great friend, honest and wise and funny, telling you about her life and asking you to reflect on yours. This book is a great purchase for moms in every stage of life. - Aspiring Novelist, Librarian, Mom To Two Kiddos For moms like me, the pandemic was an opportunity to re-evaluate and course-correct things in our lives we weren’t thrilled with. Coming out of this period, sluggish yet motivated, so many of us can use this book to help us wake up! If you’re looking to refresh, reenergize, and yes, reimagine a better version of your life, this book is for you. I loved the hilarious, yet poignant stories about motherhood today and the window into the world of those who’ve gone for it – and did it. - Mom In A Biracial Relationship Who Left A Corporate Career In her book, Melissa shows us that motherhood does not have to be a pause or an end of your pre-child self. With guidance from her podcast guests, she encourages us to think big, find what lights us up, think big, and move towards our goals with the steps that fit the reality of our lives as they are today. In doing so we honor and inspire our child(ren), and our own inner child. - Single Mom To A 12-Year Old Boy Go to www.melissallarena.com/waitlist   Let’s follow one another on Instagram! Say hi.
