Shefali Tsabary, Ph.D., On Spirituality, Ego & What To Do When Our Kids Are Unkind
Shefali Tsabary, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist and author of the award-winning parenting book The Conscious Parent as well as Out of Control: Why Disciplining Your Child Won't Work and What Willand The Awakened Family: A Revolution in Parenting. As a clinician, she expertly integrates Eastern and Western philosophies to help parents—and entire families, for that matter—become happier and more mindful. So what are some of her thoughts on parenting? For starters, she believes that children are here to teach us as much as we are here to teach them. She also encourages parents to acknowledge and understand how their egos are playing a role in their decision-making process. Dr. Tsabary and I talk about this, how social media and technology are putting our children at a psychological disadvantage by making them less capable of handling aloneness, rejection, or waiting—and so much more. The truth is children are living such different lives than they used to, and it's up to us to make sure we're keeping our perspective while also keeping up. After sitting down with Dr. Tsabary, I have a few new thoughts on rules, discipline, and helping my daughter find her purpose. Don't miss this one!
