American journalist and gossip maven Anne Helen Petersen started her career journey by getting a bona fide degree in media studies. The topic of her research was the history of… the gossip industry. Following graduation, Petersen published “Scandals of Classic Hollywood” (2014), which takes its readers straight to the Golden Age of American Cinema, regaling them with plenty of stories and anecdotes of “love, sex, drugs, illegitimate children, illicit affairs, and botched cover-ups.” Petersen then started working for BuzzFeed, which was far from the worst outlet for her writing about celebrities (albeit modern ones this time). She also covered more serious topics like the pandemic, the elections, religion, and so on. One of her articles, “How Millennials Became the Burnout Generation,” went ‘viral’ and received more than 7 million views.
