Finding work can be a challenge for anyone, but for someone who is leaving education with little, or no work experience the challenges of accessing the first steps on the career ladder can seem unsurmountable. When Sydney Samuels left university with an ambition to work in the finance industry, the reality of just how hard it can be to access career opportunities became very apparent. Despite the numerous obstacles that she encountered Sydney was able to get the starting role with an investment bank. In this episode of The Independent Minds Sydney shares with Michael Millward, of Abeceder the sequence of events that led to her starting a career in an investment bank. Sydney shares the lessons her experience taught her about the challenges that people face when they are looking for their first step on the career ladder when leaving education. Michael and Sydney explore the reasons why these challenges exist and the problems they create for both employers and would be employees. Sydney explains how her experiences led to her founding Loop Not Luck a new style of recruitment website that helps employers access junior talent from outside their conventional areas of recruitment.
