Episode #283 with Kristi Hugstad: Turning Grief into Purpose
ABOUT: Kristi’s life changed forever when her husband completed suicide in 2012, by running in front of a train, after years of struggling with clinical depression. She did not let his death end her quest to find answers and has dedicated her life to helping to abolish the stigma of mental illness and suicide. Kristi is a certified grief recovery specialist and a grief and loss facilitator for recovering addicts at South Coast Behavioral Health and hosts of The Grief Girl podcast. In her book, Beneath the Surface: A Teen’s Guide to Reaching Out When You or Your Friend is in Crisis, and when she visits schools, Kristi talks with, rather than down to, teens (and the parents and teachers who love them), about issues like depression, eating disorders, PTSD, anxiety, bullying, substance abuse, suicide, and more, and encourages them to reach out for help when they need it.
