The Power of Women’s Work with Nicole Kalil and Tory Archbold
In this episode of the Powerful Stories podcast, I talk with Nicole Kalil, direct from the US. Nicole is a former C-suite executive, who decided to step away from her role at a Fortune 500 company to focus on her true calling – building women’s confidence. Now a keynote speaker, host of the ‘This Is Woman’s Work’ podcast and author (her first book, Validation is for Parking, is out October 4), she is a wealth of wisdom and inspiration. We have a beautiful conversation around having the confidence to step out of what does not feel right for our truth, our intent and our purpose to move into what is right for our destiny. As well as talking career U-turns, we discuss what true confidence really looks like, how to reframe our failures in order to deepen our trust within ourself, and the power of women who support each other. We also talk about how showing up online from a place of authenticity and genuine purpose is received with so much more support and connection; as well as what the ‘false equation’ is and how to leave this behind in order to build your confidence from the inside out. Powerfully, Nicole says that it’s not about becoming confident, but about connecting to your confidence. Personally for me, the women my life lift each other up – their success story is my success story, and Nicole absolutely shares this outlook, so it was a pure delight to connect with her. I believe that all women deserve to step up and into their power, and they can only do that when they have confidence – so this one is a must-listen. Much love, Tory xox Topics Discussed [1:08] Nicole didn’t know the magic of women authentically and abundantly supporting each other until recent years, and says her life changed when the uncovered this power. She is seeking to reframe the concept of ‘woman’s work’ in a way that each individual woman gets to decide what her work is – wherever purpose leads you to be lit up from the inside. [4:49] Nicole says that statistically, women have less confidence than men in their 30s, 40s and 50s, but we weren’t born this way. She argues that lacking confidence isn’t a ‘you’ problem, it’s a society problem, and goes on to say that true confidence is when you trust yourself. The key is to own who you are, know who you’re not and choose to embrace all of it. [7:32] Moving into a place where you believe you are enough involves quietening what Nicole calls the ‘head trash’ – the voice in our mind that says things about us, to us, that are rarely true. [10:54] Nicole reveals the game-changing moments that took her on the path to where she is today; including what she describes as delivering ‘an Oscar-worthy performance’ as a C-suite executive, while being lonely and lacking in confidence behind-the-scenes, and the subsequent decision to step away from her lucrative corporate career to follow her calling. [15:47] Navigating the loss of identity that comes with leaving behind the corporate career you have become known for; stepping forward to show people who you have become and how to answer the question ‘What do you do?’ as a fledgling entrepreneur. [17:59] We talk about how showing up on social media or online when our confidence is low, usually receives a response that reflects this. On the flip side, when we show up from a place of confidence and truth, our content resonates so much more deeply. Nicole says that outsourcing has helped her conserve energy and protect her authenticity. [20:43] Nicole shares how she built her powerful tribe on social media, including being clear and authentic in how she shows up, which helps her people to gravitate towards her, as well as strategic moves such as joining social media support groups to boost her exposure and engagement. [22:23] Nicole speaks about the ‘mean girls syndrome’, and her belief that this kind of behaviour stems from insecurity. [25:42] Nicole shares the three powerful steps she recommends you take right now in order to gain confidence.
