PADRES POSTCAST: Ace King K's 11, Relentless SD OFFENSE POUNDS CLEVELAND in 7-0 W for UNBEATEN PADRES

The San Diego Padres are 6-0!  Michael King struck out 11 in 5 innings and Jackson Merrill hit his 1st home run of the season for the Padres, who shut out the Cleveland Guardians 7-0 to improve to 6-0 for the first time in their 57-season history.  King and 4 Padres’ relievers combined on a 2-hitter, striking out 16 in front of an electric crowd at Petco Park.  The Padres have thrown shutouts in three of their last four games. Lefty Omar Cruz- making his major league debut- tossed a perfect 9th inning. San Diego’s bullpen extended its scoreless streak to 24 innings.  King (1-0) was dominant from the start, allowing just a leadoff single in the 5th (before striking out the side) and a 2-out single in the 3rd. The right-hander walked just 1 and hit a batter.  Merrill homered to right-center with 2 outs in the fourth to get the offense going. It was the first HR this season for Merrill, who had 24 last year, when he finished 2nd in the NL Rookie of the Year voting. He has at least 1 hit in all 6 games.  The Padres scored 4 runs on 4 hits in 7 innings off Cleveland starter Logan Allen (0-1), drawing 5 walks and striking out just once.  Pads’ Reliever Jason Adam- who has been absolutely great so far- relieved Yuki Matsui with 2 runners on and 2 outs in the 7th and San Diego leading 4-0.
