PADRES POSTCAST: 5-0! Sheets, Padres Smash Cleveland Guardians 7-2 to Set Best Start in Team History

The 2025 San Diego Padres (5-0) set a new record for the best start in franchise history with their 7-2 smashing of the Cleveland Guardians at Petco Park.   Kyle Hart earned his 1st big league win, Gavin Sheets ripped a pair of two-run doubles and the Padres beat the Cleveland Guardians 7-2 to start 5-0 for the first time in their 57-season history.   The Padres' best start prior to this season was 4-0 in 1984, when they went to their first World Series against the Detroit Tigers.   Hart (1-0) returned to the big leagues 5 years after his previous stint, when he made 4 appearances and 3 starts for the Red Sox during the 2020 season. (pandemic) The 32-year-old lefty allowed 2 runs on 5 hits in 5 innings, including solo HR’s by José Ramírez and Austin Hedges. Hart struck out four and walked one.   The Padres beat up on Luis Ortiz (0-1) in his Cleveland debut, scoring 7 runs on 9 hits in his 4 2/3 innings of work.   Sheets smashed a 2-run double off the right field wall in the Padres’ 4-run 2nd inning, then sliced another RBI double down the left field line in their 3-run 5th.
