The White House has condemned what it calls “blatantly antisemitic” statements at student protests against the war in Gaza. Fractious demonstrations at Columbia University in New York have rumbled on for six days, while arrests have been made at other major colleges including Yale. Jewish students at Columbia have been warned to go home, with classes moved online. Some pro-Palestine protesters have been suspended. Critics say this is a free speech issue, conflating criticism of Israel with hatred of Jews. Others say it’s simply unacceptable that Jewish students do not feel safe. To debate, Piers is joined by the Editor of the Yale Free Press, Sahar Tartak, who was jabbed in the eye with a Palestinian flag by a protester.
