Last week, Hurricane Oscar devastated the Cuban island destroying over 1000 homes and directly killing at least six people. As a result of the natural disaster, millions of people are still without power and bread rations have been reduced to the size of a bar of soap. Cuba has repeatedly appealed to the international community, and especially the United States to lift the embargo which has strangled the government’s capacity to trade in the international arena and by extension provide stability for its citizens. Yesterday, October 27th, activists gathered at Grand Central to demand that the U.S. Let’s Cuba Live! In road to the UN General Assembly vote to end the blockade against Cuba. With us now we have Danny Valdes, Co-Chair DSA's Cuba Solidarity Working Group to discuss how U.S. policy is contributing to the disaster in Cuba.
