Hawaiian Music Legend Henry Kapono Tells His Story
In this episode of Nobody Knows Your Story, I visit with Hawaiian music legend, Henry Kapono. We talk about his early years growing up in the shadows of Honolulu, developing a love of music from a church choir and playing lots of sports. But Henry really grew up during a two-year stint in Southeast Asia entertaining the troops playing in a rock band. There"s nothing quite like playing on a base in Vietnam with rockets going off, that won"t change the way you view life. I"m excited to introduce my listeners to Henry"s music, and I"ve included several of his songs in this episode. If you"ve spent time in Hawaii, it would be hard to not have heard Henry"s music as his career has spanned close to fifty years. Henry first found success as a part of the popular duo Cecilio & Kapono, and later with a successful solo career that has produced 21 albums. Actually, make that 22 as a new compilation CD, “HENRY’S POSITIVE WORLD” comes out today, November 24, 2021. You can check it out, and all of Henry’s music at Henrykapono.com. (I snuck in a favorite of mine Na Makua from Henry"s album the Wild Hawaiian at the end of the podcast.)
