Mixed-Race Couples "RELATIONSHIP REMIX" By Producer Chris Sharpe of Black Film Space Manitoba
I spoke with Chris Sharpe on February 28, 2025 and our conversation was fun. We talked about interracial relationships. As we both agreed that it doesn't matter who you love as long as you are loved. Producer Chris Sharpe of Black Film Space Manitoba proudly announces the release of the groundbreaking documentary “Relationship Remix” that premiered on February 14, 2025, exclusively on CBC Gem. Black Film Space Manitoba is dedicated to creating inclusive storytelling opportunities that reflect the diverse voices of the Canadian prairies. Through film, music and art, the organization works to inspire meaningful connections and amplify underrepresented stories on a global stage. “Relationship Remix” celebrates love and diversity in the world today, the world we live in. The film offers a fresh and compelling exploration of Canada’s fastest-growing demographic, mixed-race couples. “Relationship Remix” highlights the transformative power of love and the importance of embracing diversity in building a more inclusive society. This captivating documentary takes viewers deep into the lives and emotions of five married and dating couples in mixed relationships from Manitoba. “Relationship Remix” explores the complexities of love across cultures, traditions and expectations. Among the featured stories is a rare glimpse into the 18-year marriage of a Jamaican and Pakistani couple raising four children. Through candid sit-down interviews “Relationship Remix” reveals how culture, food, in-laws, and music withstand and shape the pressures of daily life in Western Canada. The documentary also follows additional couples, each offering a unique perspective on the joys and challenges of navigating love in a diverse world. Together these very personal stories showcase how love bridges divides and fosters understanding, breaking down barriers of racial division. “Relationship Remix” adds to the depth of these powerful stories with an original soundtrack, Relationship Remix: The Album, produced by Chris Sharpe, Jay Evans (Sons 2 The Grave) Fresh Kils, and Serj Bhatti. The soundtrack features seven dynamic songs inspired by the couples’ cultural backgrounds. The album, produced by Motto Studios blends cultural influences and musical styles from each couple to create a vibrant and immersive listening experience. The album showcases a lineup of incredible artists from across Canada, Rukus 45, Crizelyn, Jay Evans, J-Raj, Primo, MC Quota, Tiago Vasuez and Black Lantern. The music mirrors the rich complexity of the relationships it celebrates. “Relationship Remix” makes you think of the world we want to live in and what we can do to get there.
