Virtual Freedom with Deacon Hayes
Today I'm talking about semi-passive income with Deacon Hayes. Deacon is the founder and CEO of Wellkeptwallet.com and he talks about his 13-year journey to creating a recurring revenue-based business that more than provides for his family. Deacon shares how he got his start, the trial and errors he had to go through to grow his business, and what it's like now. Deacon offers up suggestions for how to get way more done without all kinds of obstacles coming up along the way (worth listening to the conversation just to hear how he came across this teaching and how you can apply it to your life too!) Finally Deacon shares about the opportunities that have come up to sell his company and yet when he listens to his conscience and tunes into the goals he's had for the website from the beginning he notices how not all buyers share his same interests and goals. Sharing with us how this journey for him hasn't just been about the money and cashing out, which is really touching and important to consider. I loved learning about how Deacon thinks about quality time and freedom and the fact that he loves what he does and that is worth more than most people ever talk about. Enjoy! Deacon Hayes is the Founder of WellKeptWallet.com which helps over 500,000 people per month make money, pay off debt, and invest. He has been a contributor for the US News & World Report, Investopedia, Clark Howard, and more. He is also the author of the book, You Can Retire Early! Everything You Need to Achieve Financial Independence When You Want It. He shared this - So, I had this mentor and he said something that's really insightful to me. He said to me: "Deacon, you should be retiring towards something not away from something". Because I think what most people when they want passive income, they're like I want to get away from this - this job that I hate, this commute, this lifestyle, you know, that I'd rather live something else. And, I think of the challenges is you get away from it, and you're like, now what? Versus being really clear in painting that picture of what would I want to be retired towards? Well, I want to have meaningful work. I want to have flexibility in my schedule. I want to be able to travel. I want to be able to be there for my kids' activities. These are things that are going towards. And, so then you start to create that passive income or that lifestyle or that business that then provides what you want to go towards. And then when you get there, you're like "Oh this is awesome..."
