Matt Taylor - How powerlifting can help you to find your strongest self
Matt Taylor’s journey with strength training began just before his 13th birthday when he decided to pick up a barbell to transform his 99-lb frame. What started as a personal challenge quickly turned into a passion for powerlifting—a sport that not only allowed him to get stronger but also gave him a newfound sense of confidence. For the first time, Matt found himself excelling in a sport, which sparked a deeper sense of purpose.A few years into his powerlifting journey, Matt set a national squat record and, in 2014, claimed victory in his division at powerlifting worlds. The shift from feeling “invisible” to being recognized for his achievements gave him a perspective that would later define his career. In 2022, Matt faced a life-altering diagnosis of an autoimmune condition that forced him to let go of his dream of squatting 500 lbs and deadlifting 600 lbs. Reflecting on his earlier training, he realized that his approach sometimes relied too heavily on the idea that "time was on his side." This realization fueled his passion for coaching, as he committed himself to helping others avoid the mistakes he made in his lifting journey.Since 2014, Matt has coached over 4,000 lifters, focusing on those who want to channel their inner athlete while balancing their gym time with family, work, and other responsibilities. His unique coaching approach helps athletes achieve personal records at their first powerlifting meets while spending less than five hours a week in the gym.Beyond coaching, Matt offers valuable insights to help people rediscover their passion for lifting and set meaningful goals. He also shares his knowledge with a community group of over 4,000 members and through his Instagram, providing inspiration and guidance to lifters around the world. https://strongeryoupt.com/firstmeet/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/powerliftingunlimited https://www.instagram.com/strongeryoupt/ Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/i-am-refocused-radio--2671113/support.
