James Lawrence has broken two Guiness World Records for endurance racing. He raced a full distance triathlon every day for 100 consecutive days and prior to that he raced 50 full distance triathlons for 50 consecutive days across 50 states. His latest book is titled Iron Hope: Lessons Learned from Conquering the Impossible.   Some interesting insights from this episode: ·         “I’ve never had a set plan. I’ve lived my life in a way that I listen to my gut, I chase my dreams, and different doors open and take me down different paths.” ·         Know your “why” behind your goals.  What’s driving you?  It’s nice to have more than one as extra motivation.  ·         Don’t look too far ahead and worry about things you can’t control.  Dream big, break it down into small manageable daily tasks and focus on today. ·         Over the course of the quest, he’s training his mind to move the baseline of handling the pain. The mind strengthens and becomes more powerful as the body is deteriorating.  ·         When you’re thinking about the suffering and pain, time slows down.  When you’re having positive thoughts like fond memories, time speeds up.  So it’s important to shift your mind’s attention which will, in turn, alter your physical reality. ·         It takes a village to do something big. “It’s not just getting to the mountaintop, it’s how many people you bring along the way.”   Notes Book: Iron Hope: Lessons Learned from Conquering the Impossible Podcast: The Grit Show Amazon Prime Documentary: Conquer 100 Personal website: James Lawrence: Iron Cowboy
