Pascale  --------------------- FULL TRANSCRIPT --------------------- Episode 349: The Lost Art Of Patience – Rediscovering Balance In A Fast-Paced World Hello, beautiful souls, and welcome to episode 349 of The Everyday Life Balance Show. I am Pascale Gibon, your host, and today we are diving into a topic that touches all of our hearts: cultivating patience in our fast-paced world. Thank you for listening. In our modern society, speed has become the norm: We order online and receive goods within hours. We rush through self-service checkouts at supermarkets. We use apps to order and pay at restaurants, bypassing human interaction. We download boarding passes and zip through airports. While these conveniences save time, they can leave us craving instant gratification in all aspects of life. But, beautiful souls, patience is a virtue we must nurture with love and intention. Let me share a personal story. As a cyclist, I used to wish for all green lights on my commute. But I have had a change of heart. I was thinking about other drivers, cyclists, motorcycles and pedestrians on the road. Now, when I stop at a red light, I wait patiently and embrace it as a moment of mindfulness. I breathe deeply, feeling gratitude for the pause in my day. This simple shift has brought such peace to my rides. Think about it. It can become problematic if we expect everything to function at high speed. Remember when queuing was just a normal part of life? Nowadays, we often find ourselves fidgeting and complaining if we wait more than a minute. But what if we used that time to practise presence? To breathe, smile at a stranger or send a loving thought to someone in our lives?  Scientific research shows that cultivating patience through self-control can lower anxiety and depression. Isn't that beautiful? By slowing down, we nurture our mental health. Now, let us discuss how our need for speed affects our relationships. Good communication requires us to be fully present and attentive, yet our short attention spans and susceptibility to distractions often lead to poor listening. When we are always rushing, we might miss the subtle nuances in conversation and the unspoken needs of our loved ones. Are we truly present at family diners, or are we itching to check our phones? Let us challenge ourselves to listen fully with our hearts and be fully present with those we love.  Do you remember the famous Marshmallow Test? According to this classical study, children who could delay gratification (that is, wait to receive a second marshmallow) often had better life outcomes regarding academic performance, health and social skills. This study teaches us that good things come to those who wait. Instant gratification means to expect a quick reward for every action we take. However, chasing quick fixes in health, relationships, or personal growth, often leads to disappointment and frustration. True, lasting change requires patience and perseverance. In a society where speed has become the norm, we ought to observe how our behaviour can affect others and strive to balance efficiency and patience. So, how can we cultivate patience in our daily lives? Here are a few heart-centred practices: 1. Take mindful breaths when you find yourself getting impatient. 2. Practise gratitude for the present moment, even in seemingly frustrating situations. 3. Engage in activities that naturally slow you down, like gardening, strolling in nature or meditation. 4. When communicating, focus on truly listening rather than formulating your response. I invite you now to reflect: Where in your life could you be more patient? What small step are you willing to take this week to cultivate more patience? Remember, balance is key to reducing stress, and you need to bridge the gap between time for efficiency and time for savouring life's moments. Cultivating patience implies opening our hearts to deeper joy, stronger relationships, and a more fulfilling life. Thank you for joining me on this journey of self-discovery. Until next Monday, may your week be filled with mindfulness. I am sending you lots of love and light. Take care, beautiful souls!
