In 1964, California bowhunter Don Shrum got separated from his friends and climbed a tree for safety, only to see a strange light he first thought was a helicopter. Instead, a smaller craft dropped figures—two humanoid shapes in suits and a bulky “robot” with glowing eyes—that tried to gas him out of the tree while he fought back with arrows and fire.
