Today's guests on the podcast are Donny and Emil of dirty marmalade! I'll be chatting to the guys about their debut album, 'Hills of Breifne', which was released on May 30th. The album tells the bizarre story of how the strong friendship of Lil' Phynott and Mildly Fool!sh has kept them surviving and thriving amongst the community of outsiders in their homeland of Cavan. The songwriting covers themes of manipulation, substance abuse and narrow-minded attitudes of small town cliques, a personal commentary on modern social dysfunction in rural Ireland. These themes are illustrated not only by the lyrical content but also by the audio samples weaved throughout the album which were spontaneously captured by Dirty Marmalade in their day to day lives. These samples include: inscrutable drunken arguments, boasting boy racers, angry voice messages & various eccentric encounters. The album is available to stream everywhere now and you can also purchase it on CD along with some lovely T-shirts based off the album.
