EPISODE 115 [guest]: Accessing Mental Healthcare in a Broken System with Dr. Alice Feller
The show takes an investigative yet practical slant in the heart of Mental Health Month. Joining the conversation is Dr. Alice Feller, author of the newly released book, “American Madness: Fighting for Patients in a Broken Mental Health System.” She’s seen it all through five decades of work within hospital wards, private practice, public clinics and beyond. Among that discussed: knowing when to act, medication management, telehealth and the importance of families. If you or a loved one are – or at some point may be – in need of care, you’ll find some essential answers here.AUTHOR INSIGHTS by Matt Zinman The audiobook is considerably different from the written version. Being my personal story and knowing it could only be narrated by me, I couldn't bring myself to simply read into a mic. Instead, I converted each chapter into episodes of the podcast over time to be more conversational and then strung them back together. Finalized nearly two years after the paperback, I chose not to make it available commercially but rather exclusively in the training courses I'd since developed to help others build the skills to put the Z-isms concepts into practice with lasting effect. As the 5-year anniversary approaches in 2025, it's time to make the audiobook available to everyone. It may well be my proudest achievement to date. ENJOY!
