Emphysema

Hey there future nurses!! Welcome to another episode of the Nursing School Podcast.  This week we'll be discussing pathophysiology and patient teaching for Emphysema.  Emphysema(COPD) is the third leading cause of death world wide according to the World Health Organization.  Risk factors include: Smoking, indoor air pollution, and occupational exposure. COPD causes persistent and progressive respiratory symptoms including difficulty breathing cough and phlegm production.  Early diagnosis and treatment including smoking cessation is needed to slow the progression of symptoms and reduce exacerbation.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or comments you'd like to share.
