Eating Disorder Recovery in the LGBTQIA2S+ Community with Quinn Haisley
Welcome back to the HealED Podcast! Today we are talking about the intersection of eating disorders and the LGBTQIA2S+ Community. Joining me in this conversation is Quinn Haisley (they/she). Quinn Haisley is a non-binary, queer, and neurodivergent eating disorder dietitian. After originally majoring in philosophy for their undergrad degree, Quinn chose to shift gears and returned to school to study nutrition, receiving an associate’s degree from LaGuardia Community college, and a MS from New York University where they also completed their dietetic internship. Quinn started working in the eating disorder field 3 years ago as a registered dietitian at the PHP, IOP, and outpatient level, before transitioning to her role as Outpatient Services Supervisor. They now work full-time at their own private practice, Practice Eros Nutrition, primarily focusing on working with LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent folx after seeing a need for more affirming treatment spaces run by clinicians with lived experience. In this episode, Marie-Pier & Quinn talk about: ✨Prevalence and Risk Factors of Eating Disorders in LGBTQ+ Community ⛔️Barriers to Diagnosis and Access to Care 🗺Eating Disorder Treatment Approaches and Challenges 💞Importance of Safe Spaces and Supportive Community for Recovery 💜Hormone Therapy and Its Impact on Eating Disorder Recovery 👣Outreach, Resources, and Further Steps for Care Providers Thank you to Quinn for joining us and sharing their valuable insights.
