So now with Judge Juan Merchan letting Donald Trump off the hook for his felony conviction in the New York Stormy Daniels hush money case, he’s effectively been placed above the law.   Yes, many pundits claim victory of sorts because Merchan upheld Trump’s conviction on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, making Trump officially a convicted felon. We’re supposed to be satisfied with that?   Not long ago Trump faced four criminal trials and perhaps years behind bars.   Besides the hush money case, there was the federal election interference case. The Georgia election interference case. The Florida classified documents case.   But miraculously Teflon Don’s legal maneuverings and election victory mean none of those cases will stick, and the two federal prosecutions already have been dismissed.   Trump’s spokesperson, Steven Cheung, says Trump’s election was a “mandate” from voters who demanded an end to the “witch hunts” against him.   Really? The American people want a convicted felon as their president? I don’t think so.   Gullible supporters believed Trump when he promised to slash inflation and make their lives better. That’s why they voted for him, along with his macho man image.   But now that Trump is acting like a dictator-in-waiting, wanting to take over Canada, Greenland, and the Panama Canal, many realize that was a bunch of campaign crap.    Sounds to me like Trump’s been hanging out with Putin far too long and is taking a page out of his playbook.   Don’t know about you, but I’m dreading what’s ahead over the next four years. I’m 82 tomorrow, and I hope I make it to see the end of Donald J. Trump’s political career.
