An English novelist, biographer, and all-around Renaissance man, Sir Peter Ackroyd has penned, among others, biographies of writers (Charles Dickens, T.S. Eliot, Chaucer), filmmakers (Chaplin, Hitchcock), and also… cities (Venice and London, the latter from two different perspectives). He was appointed "Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire" in 2003.
